Heartbreak High will return for a third and final season! The bittersweet news was announced on May 9th 2024 and our emotions are as chaotic as Amerie (Ayesha Madon) on any given day.

While a return to Hartley High for more Map Bitch/Amerie-Malikai drama is just what the Bird Psycho ordered, the shock news that it will be the show's last season is as devastating as Darren and Ca$h's (temporary) break-up.

Still, the 2.3 million viewers who flocked to Netflix to watch season two of the angsty teen drama within its first week are certainly dying to know what they can look forward to next season.

Plenty, is our guess. While we wait for the exciting next chapter to come, here's everything we know about Heartbreak High season three.

Heartbreak High season 3: potential release date: When's it on?

The Hartley SLTs will be back for another semester as Heartbreak High season three has been confirmed.

The news broke over Instagram with Thomas Weatherall's Malakai teasing hopeful fans with the promise of revealing what was in the (unread) letter he wrote to Amerie before it turned to ash.

Weatherall opened a letter addressed to 'Amerie,' but instead of sharing the words of Malakai's bared soul, he brandished a paper which read "SNZ 3 SLTs. The final year," with the word 'final,' heavily underscored.

For those who have set their sights on the future and are desperate to know when the next season will land, here's what we know.

Heartbreak High's debut season landed in September 2022, the show was then renewed for a second season in October of the same year.

Season two went into production in May 2023, though it then took over a year and a half before it returned to Netflix, with the second instalment arriving on April 11th.

Even if season three were to go into production this very minute it's likely that Heartbreak High wouldn't return until at least until April 2025 (at best), if follows the same filming pattern as season two.

Heartbreakingly, it's more likely that fans are looking at a late 2025 to early 2026 release window.

Heartbreak High season 3 cast: Who will be coming back?

With the Rowan Callaghan saga ended we can't imagine Sam Rechner will be back to reprise his role as Amerie's Bird-Psycho lover. However we do expect the following to show up for SLT studies even if they're not in the roll call for class:

Thomas Weatherall's Malaki Mitchell may have been on a plane heading out of town when we last saw him but he and Amerie have unresolved business that we're certain will get wrapped up in the final chapter.

Teacher Jojo Obah (Chika Ikogwe) and principal Woodsy (Rachel House) will of course be back to shepherd these sex-positive, hormonal teens through their last school year. Where that will take place is another story.

Heartbreak High season 3 plot: What will happen?

Hartley High will be ringing in a new school year but where? Now that the school has been burnt to a crisp it's anyone's guess as to where the students will get their study on.

We can't imagine Heartbreak High pulling a Sex Education move and breaking up the band by splitting the students across different schools, which means new or refurbished settings for the new year.

When people last went snooping around the school Amerie and Harper's sex map was discovered. It would be interesting to see if anything else was unearthed in the ruins of Hartley High.

It certainly won't be Malakai's letter to Amerie since that was chewed up by the flames so we fully demand him expect he will return to tell her how he feels.

Either way, we sense that their unresolved feelings will get some kind of closure, especially given that both have admitted they love each other, just not to each other.

Meanwhile Ca$h and Darren are in the thick of navigating a relationship where Ca$h's asexuality and Darren's need for sexual expression continue to be an uphill battle they fight. Let's hope they continue to fight it together.

Things seem more on the up for Missy and Spider as well as Harper and Ant whose new romances seem to be on the right path.

Love-lives aside it wouldn't be Heartbreak High without some kind of new dramatic mystery.

From broken friendships and a horrific abduction storyline to scorned lovers out for revenge, season three has a legacy of drama to build on and we don't expect to be disappointed.
